Arunesh Moudgils head is still spinning from all the meandering in the mountains of Leh and Manali. The hair-pin curves and turns, rocky routes, inclement weather, thrills and chills, the 21-year-old has been through it all. He recounts the 11-day adventure, the Kingfisher Blue Mile Himalayan Expedition 2011,which took him to some of the most breathtaking motoring roads in the Himalayas on his 500cc Royal Enfield or the powerhouse as he calls it. The journey, shares Moudgil, who was chosen as the winner of the expedition, was an exhilarating experience.
For the Chandigarh-based web designer, the journey was from Leh to Delhi,in which he and ten others covered a distance of almost 1,600 kilometres. An adventure enthusiast since school days,Moudgil has been all across Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan on his Avenger. Ive also done cycling expeditions and have done rock climbing with adventurer Rana Sidhu. All this helped me to become a part of the expedition, says Moudgil about the journey that saw outdoor sports enthusiasts explore the thrills of mountain biking, rock climbing and river rafting.
Moudgil and the others rode 180 kms to reach the Nubra Valley, better known as Silk Route, which he says was a haven for bikers as it takes a different focus to ride in those terrains.
A back-up team was always there to support them. The fact that he was calm and composed helped him in handling various situations on the way with ease. Moudgil is now taking some time off before he heads to Nepal and Bhutan for his next expedition.
