The Tarn Taran police on Thursday carried out raids to arrest the accused who murdered a newly-wed girl and her mother-in-law and severely injured the husband,chopping off his hands,at Brahamniwal village late on Tuesday night.
Gurleen Kaur (19),her husband Amarpreet Singh and his mother Kuljit Kaur (50) were sleeping when the accused barged into their house and attacked them. Gurleens parents and relatives,who have been booked in the case,are absconding. The police found their houses at Dyal village locked.
Amarpreet,who is in the intensive care unit of a hospital here,has been declared out of danger. In his statement to the police,Amarpreet has identified his father-in-law Joginder Singh,brother-in-law Sonu and a few other relatives as those responsible for the attack. He said he had married Gurleen despite opposition from her family.
Patti SHO Hardeep Singh said raids were carried out at several places but the accused could not be traced. Sources,however,said a few distant relatives of Gurleen had been detained for questioning. Tarn Taran Senior Superintendent of Police P S Wirk said the accused would not be spared.
