Himachal Vidhan Sabha to have its first Zero Hour during winter session starting tomorrow

(File Image)The Himachal Pradesh Assembly will have its first Zero Hour in the 2024 winter session, set to start on Wednesday at Dharamshala in Kangra district, Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said in a notification on Tuesday.
During the monsoon session held in September, Pathania expressed his intention to introduce Zero Hour in the Assembly. However, the Sukhvinder Singh-led state government requested more time to prepare a standard operating procedure for its implementation. Subsequently, the Speaker issued the notification under Rule 346 of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Act and Rules 1973.

Pathania said that 346 questions have been received from MLAs for discussion during the four-day winter session, which will end on December 21.
The Assembly consists of 68 members, with the Congress holding 40 seats and the Opposition BJP 28 seats.
During the winter session, the BJP plans to corner the Government led by Chief Minister Sukhu on issues such as unemployment, fiscal deficit, new guest teacher policy, corruption, illegal mining, and exclusion of many women from the Indira Gandhi Payari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana aid scheme.
Leader of the Opposition and former chief minister Jairam Thakur has already criticised the government demanding that the duration of the winter session be increased to at least a week.
