Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Wednesday said his government has given jobs to 51,000 youths in various government departments in the last three years, and will soon double the number by providing another 50,000 jobs.

Handing over appointment letters to 763 newly appointed government employees, he said the Aam Aadmi Party dispensation has given 51,655 jobs to the youth in 36 months of coming to power, which was a record.

“All the jobs have been given completely on the basis of merit. It is a red letter day for these youth who have got jobs in the cooperation, health and family welfare and higher education and languages departments,” he added.

He further said his government was trying its best to ensure that maximum youth get jobs so that they do not fall prey to the social menaces. “Unemployment is the root cause of several social problems due to which the state government is focusing on eradicating this malady,” the CM said.

“A foolproof mechanism has been adopted for the entire recruitment process due to which not even a single appointment out of these nearly 51,000 jobs have been challenged so far in any court. It is a proud moment for the government of Punjab that these youths have been given government jobs completely on the basis of merit. It is a momentous occasion when these youths are becoming part of the family of the Punjab government,” he said.

Stating that his government was ensuring that no one from the state migrates abroad, Mann said that due to strenuous efforts, reverse migration is already being witnessed and youth are returning from abroad to serve here.

Mann also hit out at the opposition parties claiming that their leaders are “desperate” to occupy CM residence for which they are indulging in various theatrics. He said the CM’s house belongs to 3.5 crore people of Punjab and only the person elected by them has a privilege of serving them and living in that house. He said people do not elect such power hungry leaders with dubious character, who have never bothered about the people.

He reiterated that the traditional parties are envious of him because he hails from a common family adding that these leaders who had always believed that they have divine right to rule the state are not able to digest that a common man is running the state efficiently. He said that these leaders have befooled the people since independence by depriving them of even the basic necessities due to which people had ousted them. Mann said that it is a fact that “these convent educated political leaders” are not even aware of the basic ground realities of the state.
