As Haryana books 1,540 NDPS cases in 5 years, Sirsa leads in heroin seizures, Yamunanagar in charas

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini reveals details of cases booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act during the budget session of the Assembly.

Haryana’s Narcotics Control Bureau registered 1,540 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in the last five years and arrested 2,625 people. Of these, 1,406 cases are under trial, while 57 cases have led to convictions.

These details were provided by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in reply to a question raised by INLD MLA Arjun Chautala during the Question Hour of the ongoing budget session of the Assembly.

Although Chautala had also demanded the government provide the actual value of the seized narcotics, the chief minister said, “There are no official norms available for determining the value of illicit drugs. Hence, the market value of seized drugs cannot be provided.”

According to the chief minister’s reply, 204.85 kg of heroin, 1,527.88 kg of charas, 53,186.88 kg of ganja, 1,599 kg of opium, 79,652.31 kg of poppy straw, 0.5 kg of cocaine and 0.39 kg of MDMA were seized across the state between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2024.

The highest heroin seizure was of 40.55 kg, in Sirsa, followed by 21.85 kg in Fatehabad, 17.62 kg in Jind, 15.53 kg in Rohtak, 14.64 kg in Yamunanagar, 14.18 kg in Ambala and 14.15 kg in Hisar.

Yamunanagar topped the charas seizure list with 268.33 kg, followed by Sonipat (135.79 kg), Charkhi Dadri (128.76 kg), Jind (120.61 kg) and Panipat (115.79 kg).

Also seized during these five years were 69,464 bottles containing intoxicants, 10.84 lakh intoxicant capsules, 61,777 injections and over 49.37 lakh intoxicant tablets.
