Handpumps for all schools in HP

Every government educational institution will be provided with a handpump in a phased manner to supplement ‘Jalmani’,a scheme aimed at providing safe drinking water to children studying in rural schools.

Every government educational institution will be provided with a handpump in a phased manner to supplement ‘Jalmani’,a scheme aimed at providing safe drinking water to children studying in rural schools.

Nearly Rs 111.29 crore will be spent on the scheme funded by the central government. CM Prem Kumar Dhumal said there are over 20,000 handpumps installed in the state.

He asked for a special drive to revive the dry,non-functional hand pumps. Referring to reports about drinking water problems in some areas,Dhumal said the government has directed all Deputy Commissioners to hire water tankers to provide water here.

IPH Minister Ravinder Ravi apprised the chief minister about the steps taken to meet the shortage of drinking water in various areas.
