Govt schools will take e-route to monitor students’ performance

Soon,government schools will compete with private schools when it comes to technology.

Under the School Information Management System,government schools in the city will adopt various technologies like biometric attendance of staff,online records of performance of students,online parents’ grievance redressal mechanism,online performance tracking of students by parents,online transfer of certificates,regular alerts for parents along with other maintenance of online records.

A meeting was convened on Monday to discuss the modalities and areas where this School Information Management System could be implemented. Secretary (Education) Ram Niwas,Director Public Instruction (schools) P K Sharma,Director Technical Education Sandeep Hans and representatives of SPIC (Society for Promotion of IT in Chandigarh) attended the meeting. SPIC is the nodal agency for the project.

According to officials,the Centrally-funded project,the cost of which is yet to be estimated,was taken to update the information system for the government schools.

The software,prepared keeping in mind the suggestions,would provide information on each school,individual profile of its students and their performance records. The parents would be provided with passwords with which they can access their wards’ account. They would be given option to address their grievances online and would receive alerts.

The daily records of mid-day meals would also be maintained online which would state how much meal was prepared,supplied to each school and how many students had it. Also,the distribution of school bags,uniforms,books,etc would be available online.

“The department has identified the tasks on which the software would be prepared. This would be done by SPIC,designated as the nodal agency. The process of need assessment of hardware for each schools would be initiated soon along with the staff training,” informed the senior official of education department.
