Government doctors in Punjab will be given a salary hike with the state government approving the Modified Assured Career Progression (MACP) Scheme for medical officers in the Department of Health.

The doctors had earlier announced to go on strike from Tuesday over pending demands, following which  the scheme was notified on Monday.

With this, medical officers will get an entry pay scale of level 18 with a salary of Rs 56,100 per month. After five years of service, they will get a salary of Rs 67,400 per month, after 10 years of service it will be Rs 83,600 per month and it will further rise to Rs 1,22,800 per month after 15 years of service.

This scheme will be applicable to officers who were appointed before July 17, 2020 and were getting paid as per Punjab Civil Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 2021. The scheme will be effective from January 1, 2025. The notification says that since the pay matrix and pay levels of the Seventh Central Pay Commission and Sixth Punjab Pay Commission are different, the scheme for medical officers recruited on or after July 17, 2020 will be decided separately.

The School Education Department has also approved an increase in Dearness Allowance for computer teachers working under the Punjab ICT Education Society (PICTES). The Finance Department has approved the release of 33 per cent additional Dearness Allowance to all regular employees of PICTES, which will increase the current DA rate from 148 per cent to 181 per cent. This will be paid with the salary of January 2025.
