Gill gets three notices from EC

It has not been an easy going for former DGP Paramdeep Singh Gill, who has been under the constant scanner of the Election Commission (EC). The EC has served the former cop three notices — one for campaigning in a private car with red light on top of it,second for putting up a hoarding outside his office in Moga and the a third for putting up a huge poster outside a shop on the Moga Zira Road.

Gill has been under the scanner of the EC since the day he retired from his post and came to Moga in October 2011. His plan to contest from the Moga seat under the flag of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) had the EC sit up and take notice when Gill returned to his home town in a huge cavalcade. Soon, huge hoardings sprang up in Moga city, speaking of Gill’s contribution in getting grants for Moga. With the model code of conduct yet to be implemented, the EC ordered the Moga SSP and DC to keep an eye on Gill’s movement. The Commission also asked the SSP to submit a report on the number of policemen on VIP duty.

However, with the model code of conduct now in place, the use of red light atop his private car and the hoardings have earned the former DGP the notices, according to Moga DC Chander Gaind.

Recently, the EC had also ordered the transfer of 20 police officers posted in Moga. These officers were said to be close to the former DGP,who had given out of turn promotions to them. Those transferred included three SHOs — Harjit Singh,Ravi Sher Singh and Daljit Singh.

Even the security guards being used by Micky Gill, who is the former DGP’s cousin, were transferred.
