From GenZ hampers to gift cards of gym sessions, how gift ideas are changing this Diwali
Rupal Trivedi, a fashion designer and resident of Sector 8 in Chandigarh, told The Indian Express how she gifted her friends gym session gift cards at JW Marriott this Diwali.

This Diwali, people are getting creative with their gifts—from gym memberships to Gen Z hampers, designer wear, and even vacations. While some are giving traditional items a modern twist, others are opting for all-healthy gifts by choosing health and fitness packages. Some are even going the extra mile by gifting salon packages as a festive token.
Rupal Trivedi, a fashion designer and resident of Sector 8 in Chandigarh, told The Indian Express how she gifted her friends gym session gift cards at JW Marriott this Diwali.
“Though Diwali is traditionally marked by exchanging sweets and decorative items, there’s a refreshing trend of gifting unique, thoughtful items that reflect personal connections and creativity. It’s a way of showing loved ones they’re special,” Rupal said. “Moreover, the gift should be useful and leave a lasting impression.”
She added, “Many of my friends are also gifting experiences, like cooking classes or adventure outings, which create lasting memories rather than just material possessions.” This trend goes beyond custom-made jewellery or tailored home decor.
Meanwhile, Super Donuts, a popular chain, has introduced Gen Z hampers. Owner Ketan Kalra explained their effort to blend contemporary tastes with tradition. “Our biggest hit is the Gen Z hampers. With everyone becoming health-conscious, we wanted each hamper to capture the spirit of Diwali while appealing to modern consumers,” Kalra said.
“Some highlights include healthy seed mixes, blueberry marmalade, creamy hazelnut spread, and nutritious makhana. These items promote wellness and add a contemporary twist to traditional flavors. Our hampers also feature nostalgic Danish butter cookies, which evoke fond memories while satisfying the taste buds,” he added. These hampers start at Rs 1200, offering a unique blend of indulgence and health.
Kalra also noted the increased focus on luxurious packaging this year. “Some people want hampers adorned with elegant ribbons and presented in gold-filled boxes to elevate the gifting experience.”
Rohit Kumar, Director of Oven Fresh Chandigarh, shared that designer wear and vacations are also trending as Diwali gifts. “A lot of people are gifting vacations or branded designer wear. I feel those who are fortunate enough should consider sharing their riches with the less fortunate—that’s the true spirit of Diwali,” he said.
