Gangster Navjot Singh, a close associate of Lucky Patial, who runs the notorious Bambiha gang, was shot and arrested in a police encounter in New Chandigarh, Mullanpur, on Wednesday around 4:15 PM. According to Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek, the accused, recently released from jail, fired at the CIA (Crime Investigation Agency) staff during the raid and was shot in the left leg in retaliation. He was taken into custody and shifted to Civil Hospital, Phase-6, for treatment.

Addressing a press conference, SSP Pareek said that CIA Inspector Harminder Singh received information that Navjot Singh was hiding in House No. 5077 in Eco City-1, Mullanpur. The house belonged to the accused, though he primarily resided in Padoal village. When the police reached the location and asked him to surrender, Navjot fired at them from inside the house. In response, the police opened fire, injuring him. After being shot, he collapsed, and the police took him into custody.

During the raid, police recovered a country-made Sten gun, two magazines, and two additional magazines belonging to another firearm. A case of attempted murder and violations under the Arms Act has been registered at Mullanpur police station.

SSP Pareek said that Navjot had been previously arrested in three different cases under the Arms Act in Punjab. After his recent release from jail, he resumed illegal arms trafficking. While authorities did not confirm his direct gang affiliation, sources suggest he was working for the Lucky Patial gang, supplying weapons to its members.

According to police sources, Lucky Patial, originally from Dhanas, Chandigarh, took over the Davinder Bambiha gang after Bambiha’s 2016 encounter. Now operating from Armenia, he controls nearly 300 shooters across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh. Patial, a rival of the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gangs, has a ₹5 lakh bounty on his head.

Senior police officials later visited the site as part of the investigation.
