Nestled in shady trees and fragrant plants, with statues of Buddha around, a meditation park has been set up in the HUDA Town Park in Sector 5.
The first-of-its-kind garden area has been developed by HUDA’s Horticulture Department to provide the residents a place to sit and meditate.
They can also walk on a specially made path and get acupressure experience.

Signboards will be put up at various points in the park to guide people about the various ways they can practise meditation in the park, said Dr Satish Narula, horticulturist who designed the park. Food and drinks will not be allowed inside.
The acupressure path includes three short stretches paved with stones. “The first consists of rounded stones, which give a slight sensation as we step on them. The stones in the second stretch are slightly bigger and feel harder, while the third one has pointed stones,” explained Dr Narula.
The path is uncemented in order to allow people to relax and walk barefoot. Benches have been put alongside.
There is a path for ‘labyrinth walking’, which is also a form of meditation. A labyrinth is a circular path running clockwise to the centre of the park from the entrance. One has to use the same path to walk out as one did to walk in.
“First you walk towards the centre, which helps you to relax physically and when you reach the centre, you will be prepared to receive a sense of peace,” said Dr Narula.
“The area had been lying unused for quite some time as no plantation could be grown due to the dense growth of trees. So, when this idea of a meditation park came up, we decided to go ahead with it. This is the first-of-its-kind park in the Tricity,” said Hardeep Malik, superintending engineer, horticulture, HUDA.
The park will be inaugurated and opened to public on February 28, which is the first day of the three-day annual Spring Fest organised by HUDA.
