The Punjab government on Thursday submitted before the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the chargesheet filed on July 1 against former director general of police (DGP) S S Virk in the disproportionate assets case was the fourth and final one based on the information gathered so far.
Punjab Additional Advocate General (AAG) Rupinder S Khosla today submitted the state’s stand before Justice Surya Kant during the resumed hearing of a petition filed by Virk demanding quashing of the FIR.
The development assumes significance since Virk, represented by Advocate Sanjeev Bansal, had demanded action against the state for filing chargesheets in a piecemeal manner and not in a consolidated form. The affidavit reads: After the completion of investigation on the basis of material available till now,a final chargesheet was submitted in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge S K Garg on July 1.
The court has adjourned the case for two weeks granting the state more time to file a detailed reply. In one of the earlier supplementary chargesheets, the Punjab Police had pegged Virks alleged disproportionate assets to Rs 29.54 crore.
In March 2008,the vigilance bureau had filed the main chargesheet against Virk for having assets amounting to Rs 16.86 crore and the first supplementary chargesheet filed in August 2008 had accused Virk of having unaccounted money of Rs 3.12 crore in his over 35 bank accounts.
