Former Haryana minister and BJP leader Satpal Sangwan passes away at 77
Satpal Sangwan contested the Haryana Assembly elections six times, and won twice from the Dadri seat.

Former Haryana Cabinet minister and veteran politician Satpal Sangwan died early Monday after battling liver cancer for the past few years. He was 77.
His family member said Sangwan’s last rites shall be performed in his native village Chandeni in Charkhi Dadri later in the day.
Sangwan was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon. On Sunday, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Cabinet Minister Rao Narbir Singh visited Sangwan at the hospital.
Satpal Sangwan contested the Haryana Assembly elections six times, and won twice from the Dadri seat. He was elected an MLA for the first time in 1996 as the candidate of the Haryana Vikas Party (HVP). He was elected an MLA for the second time in 2009 as the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) party nominee. Later, when the HJC merged with Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress, Sangwan was inducted as a minister in the Cabinet.
He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on April 19, 2024. Before joining the BJP, Sangwan was with Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) and unsuccessfully contested from the Dadri seat.
Ahead of the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections, Sangwan’s son Sunil Sangwan who was posted as jail superintendent took voluntary retirement and joined the BJP. Sunil contested from Dadri and won.
