Former CSIO employee convicted for molestation

A lower court on Wednesday sentenced an employee of the Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) to two years’ rigorous imprisonment for outraging the modesty of a woman. The case was registered six years ago.

A lower court on Wednesday sentenced an employee of the Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) to two years’ rigorous imprisonment for outraging the modesty of a woman. The case was registered six years ago.

at CSIO,has been convicted under Section 294 (obscene acts and songs),354 (assault or criminal force on a woman with an attempt to out-rage her modesty),and 341 (wrongful restrain) of the IPC.

The court of Judicial Magistrate (first class) Manisha Jain sentenced Awasthi to two years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 3,000.

The case was registered on October 23,2003,when a female technical officer at CSIO complained to police that she was being teased,assaulted and threatened by Awasthi for the last three months.

In her complaint,the 43-year-old woman said Awasthi,who was 50-year-old then,tried to outrage her modesty. The woman has been working with the CSIO since 1977. She said he used to follow her to her home and pass lewd remarks. Subsequently,a case was registered in the Industrial Area police station.
