(Representational/File Image)The Counter Intelligence wing of Bathinda police on Saturday arrested two shooters for opening fire on a jeweller in Doraha of Ludhiana district. Police said that four foreign-made automatic pistols, including those made in Italy and Belgium, were recovered from the arrested duo.
Two bike-borne miscreants had opened fire incessantly targeting one Manpreet Singh outside his showroom “Paramjit Jewellers” on Railway Road in Doraha on Wednesday evening (June 12) in full view of the public. Though the jeweller had escaped unhurt, panic had gripped the entire town.
Avneet Kaur Sidhu, AIG, Counter Intelligence Bathinda, said that the arrested persons were identified as Pardeep Singh of Begowal village of Doraha and Suraj Parkash of Haibowal, Ludhiana.
Sidhu said that four pistols, including two Beretta 32 mm bore (made in Italy), Taurus 9 mm (made in Belgium) and Px5 storm 30 mm (made in Japan), along with 36 live cartridges, seven magazines and Hyundai Verna car have been recovered from them.
“During the preliminary investigation, it came to light that both Pardeep Singh and Suraj Parkash have criminal background with cases pertaining to murder, attempt to murder, looting-robbery, etc registered against them previously. Suraj Parkash was wanted in a murder case of Ludhiana registered at PAU police station in February this year. He is also an associate of Fortuner Group active in Ludhiana area,” said Sidhu.
The officer added that prima facie, a person identified as Lovedeep, alias Love, a US-based friend of Pardeep Singh, had arranged arms, vehicles and financial support in order to carry out the shooting at Doraha.
She said that following reliable input, a special operation was initiated under the supervision of Inspector Paramjit Singh, In-charge, Counter Intelligence Bathinda, and in coordination with Khanna police.
An FIR under sections 307, 427, 34 of IPC and 25 of the Arms Act was registered against both accused at Doraha police station under the jurisdiction of Khanna police where the incident happened.
Khanna SSP Amneet Kondal said that during the investigation, it came to light that the accused Pardeep Singh had a financial dispute with Paramjit Verma, father of the victim, due to which he and his accomplice planned to open fire on him.
Pardeep Singh has been previously booked in five cases, including murder, attempt to murder, and drug peddling, among others, while Suraj Parkash has been booked in three cases, including murder.
