Luminous Power Technologies awarded 16-year-old Priya,a local student from the city with the ‘Luminous Ghar Ka Chirag’ scholarship with an amount of Rs 30,000. Priya has been rewarded for her proven exceptional talent in social work. A student of Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 41,Chandigarh,Priya has actively participated in various social activities. She is a prolific writer,environmentalist,youth leader and a role model for her peers. She has also won many state,national and international awards in social work at a small age. She has written 450 articles since childhood on topical issues like environment,pollution,female foeticide,dowry,and empowerment. “I am delighted for having been chosen for the scholarship and it’s only made me more determined to do more for society,” remarked Priya. Under the initiative of ‘Ghar Ka Chirag’ exceptionally talented children in the field of sports,academics,art and culture,social work,and bravery are being awarded with scholarships worth Rs 5 lakhs all across India. Luminous also awarded three more students from Punjab & Haryana. Kapil Bansal and Manish Bansal from Jind were awarded for bravery while Neeharika Saxena from Ludhiana was awarded for academic excellence.

Street to School
Aviva has launched its ‘Street to School’ programme in partnership with CRY and Save the Children,India. The Corporate Responsibility (CR) program’s objective is to provide education to 50,000 underprivileged children over the next three years. At the start of this program,Aviva India employees have volunteered a day’s salary,amounting to Rs 0.24 crores. Aviva also plans to roll out a series of ‘Street to School’ partnerships with other charities around the world over the coming months. From 2010,50 percent of the group’s charitable donations will focus on ‘Street to School’ programs.

MAAC & IGNOU join hands
In an unique initiative,India’s largest and prestigious university,Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and animation education leader,Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) have announced an exclusive partnership to offer a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 3D Animation and Visual Effects as an IGNOU offering. As part of the tie-up,MAAC and IGNOU are jointly offering a flagship B.A Degree in 3D Animation and Visual Effects (36 months),a Diploma in Computer Generated Imagery (18 months) and a Certificate in Film Making (6 months) at all the 70 MAAC centres across the country,including Chandigarh,Dehradun and Ludhiana. The curriculum is stewarded by a Joint Coordination Committee of IGNOU and MAAC. In addition to detailed technical and creative skills,the curriculum will impart soft skills,business and production management training,and an orientation to student on an actual project of creation of content. Ronald D’mello,MD and CEO of Maya Entertainment Limited,the parent company of MAAC,mentioned,“Animation is a serious career requiring specialized skills and in-depth learning. MAAC emphasizes on creatively oriented education with equal opportunity of access and high quality of delivery all over India. It is a natural fit with IGNOU’s own objectives,and we can now provide an even wider platform for formal education in animation and VFX from the largest Central University.” The courses will be delivered from MAAC’s education centers nationwide and internationally using its state-of-the-art infrastructure. IGNOU will implement norms for examinations,assessments and university standards. The courses will also offer lateral entry to MAAC alumni to upgrade themselves based on various criteria. The last date for admission is August 25,2009 and application forms are available at MAAC,SCO 21,Sector 33-D,Opp. Terrace Garden,Chandigarh.
