Levels charges of rape, cheating, defamation, hurting religious sentiments; seeks security The controversial love story of former Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan alias Chand Mohammad and former Haryana assistant advocate general Anuradha Bali alias Fiza has finally reached the Punjab Police, the National Womens Commission, the Punjab State Human Rights Commission and the Haryana Chief Minister. On Monday,37-year-old Fiza formally levelled charges of rape, hurting religious sentiments, cheating, defamation and criminal intimidation against Chand. In a criminal complaint filed before Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jatinder Singh Aulakh and others,Fiza said Chand betrayed, used, blackmailed, intimidated and ditched her under the garb of religion and marriage. Seeking the registration of an FIR under Section 376,420,295-A,500 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code,Fiza said she was devastated by Chands betrayal. I have lost everything and am unable to face the society, she said. Fearing that Chand and his family may try to harm her,Fiza has also sought security with immediate effect. Fiza submitted that she met Chand in 2004 when he was elected to the Haryana Legislative Assembly for the fourth time. She said he pursued her relentlessly, till she accepted his proposal and finally married him in December 2008. Fiza said Chand had claimed that he was not on good terms with his wife Seema Bishnoi and that his son Siddarath even used to beat him. She said the former deputy chief minister of Haryana finally managed to convince her, following which they converted to Islam and got married on December 2. She said after Chand left on January 28 with his aides Devi Lal and Rana, she was awaiting his return and was shocked to see his statement in the media in which he professed his love for his first wife and denied his relationship with her. Fiza alleged that she had been receiving threatening calls from Chands family ever since she started speaking out against him. The Mohali SSP has, meanwhile, ordered an inquiry into the complaint and asked Superintendent of Police (City) Varinder Pal Singh to submit a report at the earliest. We will proceed as per law, the SSP told Newsline, adding that Fiza had been asked to separately approach the Punjab Additional Director General of Police (Security) to seek security cover. Fate of Fizas complaintThough Fiza still claims to be a Muslim, her complaint has Anuradha Bali typed in the place where the complainants name is to appear. In her signature, however,Fiza has written Anuradha @ Fiza. Though legal experts are sceptical of any action on Fizas complaint, police sources said since Fizas lawyer denied that her marriage with Chand was registered, the statement of the priest who performed the nikah would be recorded. Chand not in India?Fiza said in her complaint that Chand might try to flee abroad to avoid legal action. Her fears do not seem unfounded. While repeated attempts to contact Chander Mohan aka Chand Mohammad turned futile on Monday, his associates said he had gone abroad on a pilgrimage.
