Five years on,GMADA allows construction at Housefed project site in Mohali’s Sector 79

Over five years after allotment,a ray of hope has emerged for the applicants of 632 super deluxe multi-storied flats in Sector 79 here as Greater Mohali Area Development Authority.

Over five years after allotment,a ray of hope has emerged for the applicants of 632 super deluxe multi-storied flats in Sector 79 here as Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has agreed to allow the construction of flats spread over an area of around 11 acres earmarked for the housing project proposed in 2003.

GMADA has taken a decision to this effect with the approval of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who is also the GMADA Chairman,at a meeting held in Chandigarh recently,GMADA Chief Administrator (CA) Vivek Partap Singh told Newsline.

According to the decision,GMADA would seek a written undertaking from Housefed Managing Director to the effect that they were aware of the litigation pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the matter and Housefed would give possession of the flats to the allottees on its own risk, subject to the final verdict of the court.

Also,GMADA would not provide any water supply, sewerage or any other facility to the flats.

“Once we receive the said undertaking,we will approve the site plan and formally allow construction activity, for which Housefed would bear sole responsibility of any repercussions arising out of the result of the pending court litigation,” said the GMADA CA.

Housefed MD Mukhtiar Singh, meanwhile, said he was still awaiting the formal receipt of GMADA decision’s copy, following which the matter would be discussed and decided after considering all the pros and cons.

On the other hand,a delegation of Housefed Flat Allottees Sangharsh Committee today met the CM and expressed gratitude for ending their five-year-old wait to own a house.

Committee president Naresh Kumar Trehan and general secretary Amarjeet Singh Dhanoa urged Badal to constitute a joint monitoring committee, comprising representatives of Housefed and allottees,to monitor the construction work.

The allottees have also sought interest on their deposits made with Housefed since 2004.

In 2003,Housefed had conducted a demand survey for allotment of flats in Sector 79 and after receiving an overwhelming response,632 applicants were allotted flat numbers in a draw of lots held in March 2004. Subsequently, the allottees deposited requisite amounts with Housefed amounting to around Rs 40 crore.

Housefed had promised possession of flats by March 2006 but construction could not begin due to a pending litigation in court.
