The convoy of Congress Kalka legislator Pradeep Chaudhary was on Friday attacked by three unidentified assailants in which two of his supporters sustained gunshot injuries. According to the police, the incident took place near Raipur Rani in the Kalka constituency where Pradeep Chaudhary was canvassing ahead of the October 5 Haryana Assembly elections.
His supporter Goldy Kheri and another man were travelling in their car as part of Chaudhary’s cavalcade. Kheri’s friend, who was with him in the car, told the police there were three attackers. “Two of them were walking with our cavalcade. All of a sudden, they opened fire at us. One of the bullets pierced the windowpane and the other gunshot hit Goldy on the left side of his chest. Another gunshot hit the pillar of the vehicle,” said the friend.
“When I opened the door of the car to step out and catch hold of the assailants, they opened fire at me and one gunshot hit me in the hand. By the time anybody could realise what happened, they fled away with their accomplice who was following them on a motorbike,” he added.
The police have launched investigations to ascertain the identity of the accused and to find out if the actual target was Chaudhary or if it was due to some personal enmity of Kheri that led to the firing.
The injured supporters were rushed to the Kalka Civil Hospital from where one of them was rushed to PGIMER, Chandigarh. The Kalka Hospital doctors who provided first aid to the injured told the police that Kheri’s vitals were stable but he was facing difficulty in breathing. “He has got a gunshot wound injury in the left side of his chest. The necessary first aid protocols were followed and the patient has been referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh”.
Kalka MLA Pradeep Chaudhary and several of his supporters also reached the hospital and met the injured supporters.
Pradeep Chaudhary is contesting against Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Union minister Venod Sharma’s wife and Ambala’s Mayor Shakti Rani Sharma, who recently joined the BJP.
