Fee for additional compartment exam reduced

In a meeting at the Panjab University campus on Sunday, the Syndicate decided to reduce the fee for the ‘special chance’ given to those who have exhausted their opportunities to pass the compartment exam.

In a meeting at the Panjab University campus on Sunday, the Syndicate decided to reduce the fee for the ‘special chance’ given to those who have exhausted their opportunities to pass the compartment exam. The fee has been reduced from Rs 7,500 to Rs 6,000.

The decision came after students at the university protested against the ‘high fee’ being charged for the exam.

This is the second ‘special chance’ given by PU to compartment students.

Talking to Newsline,a fellow at PU said,“There was a huge demand from students to reduce the fee. So we decided to reduce it from Rs 7,500 to Rs 6,000”.

The issue of granting additional seats to PU-affiliated colleges was also discussed in the meeting. The committee, which was formed to inspect colleges in this regard, submitted its report. On the basis of this report, additional seats would be granted.

It was decided that minimum five seats per unit would be given to each college, which would go up to 20 depending upon the requirement of the college and the remarks in committee’s report. A college would have to give Rs 2,500 per additional seat to PU.

Another issue discussed in the meeting was that of the UBS regional centre in Ludhiana. The Syndicate decided to reduce the pass percentage required to get promoted to second year — instead of the earlier 10 per cent, now a student would need to get 6 per cent in every subject to get promoted.

“We had received many representations (from the regional centre),stating that seats in the second year remain vacant. In order to help the centre get more students in second year, the pass percentage has been reduced,” a fellow said.

The meeting further discussed the security and steps needed to maintain peace on the campus. The fellows were told that security on the campus has been beefed up.
