Father killed 4 months ago,son waits for police job as UT yet to send file to MHA

Sucha Singh murder: Parminder had applied for the post of an Assistant Sub-Inspector.

Even four months after Parminder applied for a job with the Chandigarh Police on “compassionate grounds” following the murder of his father, the administration is yet to forward his file. Reason: the case is “under consideration” as the administration wants to prepare a “strong case” for Parminder. And the administration intends to send the file to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) “shortly”.

Parminder’s father Inspector Sucha Singh was murdered by dismissed constable Basant Kumar on June 8. A fortnight later,Parminder had applied for the post of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI).

The top brass of Chandigarh Police publicly promised Parminder to consider his request and sent to the administration a letter of recommendation seeking creation of the post sought by him. Since the rules do not allow, according to police officials, direct recruitment of a candidate to the post of ASI,the case was forwarded to the administration to request the MHA to make an exception.

However, much to Parminder’s chagrin, the file is yet to be sent to the MHA.

When contacted,Prerna Puri,Additional Secretary (Home),also handling the charge of personnel, said,“The case is under consideration and we will send the letter to MHA shortly.”

On the reason for the delay, she said,“Since the case involves relaxation of a policy,we need to build a strong case in order to present a worthy justification to MHA for creation of the post.”

Home Secretary Anil Kumar, when contacted, said: “Since each day I receive many files on my desk,I do not remember whether the particular case has reached me yet. But we will surely forward it to MHA.”

Thirty-year-old Parminder,a graduate, was earlier working in Canada, but returned home after his father’s death. He then applied for the post of the rank of an ASI on compassionate grounds.

The Chandigarh Police has a provision for providing a post to the kin of a deceased police officer only up to the rank of a Head Constable. Therefore,it sent a letter to the UT Administration for forwarding it to the MHA,seeking relaxation in the policy.

Talking to Newsline,Parminder said,“I am still waiting for response to my request for a post in the Chandigarh Police. It is not for money, but for the respect that I want to pay to my father’s soul.”

“Currently,I have no plans of going back to Canada. I will stay with my mother and take care of her. She is depressed and spends many sleepless nights,” he added.
