Fate and Chance

Aulakh now also collaborates with other Indian and international artistes for performances.

Lend an ear to folk and Sufi music this weekend with a performance by the band Just Ittefaaq, formed by a mother-daughter duo who “inspire each other to create music”. Lyricist Polly Saghera says that her affair with writing remained absolutely private until her diary was discovered by her daughter Jasleen Aulakh, who is the lead vocalist and director of Just Ittefaaq. After having worked with two like-minded musicians — guitarist Rohit Joshi, and drummer and percussionist Gaurish,on their first album, titled Polly’s Diary, Aulakh now also collaborates with other Indian and international artistes for performances. Keen on using unconventional instruments to express themselves, and inspired mostly by folk and Sufi music, the band believes that music is a language that knows no barriers. Folk, slow rock or country music,Aulakh sings in Hindi,English,Punjabi and French as well. Their songs Paisa paisa and Supna (written in honour of the girlchild) have been quite popular. Just Ittefaaq will perform at Tagore Theatre today,7 pm onwards, courtesy the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi.
