Farheen,Hassan complete grand double

Farheen and Hassan,both of St Stephen’s School,Sector 45,completed a grand double in the 20th Chandigarh State Carrom Tournament organised by Chandigarh Carrom Association at St Stephen’s School on Monday. While Farheen won girls junior singles and women singles titles,Hassan won the boys junior and men’s titles.

Farheen began her campaign well and made her intentions clear when she blanked Manu Gupta in the girls junior singles semi-finals by 21-0,18-0. Then,in the final,she got the better of formidable Tuba 14-15,21-10,21-1 to lay her hands on the title. Continuing with her form,she once again met Manu Gupta in the last four of the women’s singles category where she defeated Manu 19-3,3-11,21-0. Once again,in the final,she was in rampaging form as she beat Tuba 14-15,21-10,21-1 to complete a double.

Meanwhile,Hassan defeated Shaquib 21-0,21-7,21-5 in the semi-final to reach the final in the boys’ junior category. Then he thrashed Talib 21-5,21-5 to win the title. In the men’s final,he got the better of Mobassir 21-6,11-17,13-12 in a tough-fought match as he also completed a double. Earlier,he had defeated Rak Kumar 16-8,21-7 to reach the final.

The boys’ sub-junior singles title was claimed by Talib as he defeated Arish 13-5,14-4 in the final to win the title. The girls sub-junior singles title was bagged by Tuba after she routed Priya Sharma 15-5,11-5 in the final.
