The Punjab and Haryana High Court today refused to entertain a petition demanding quashing of Vivek High Schools orders wherein it had suspended 16 students for three months for launching a hate campaign against one of their maths teacher. A division bench headed by Justice A K Goel today dismissed a public interest litigation filed by Surender Batra. The petitioner had sought directions to the Chandigarh schools to abolish the practice of corporal punishment and also to quash the orders of Vivek High School. Refusing to show conviction in the averments raised, the Bench today dismissed the petition. The case pertains to the suspension of 16 students of Class XII on October 6 by the school authorities for three months when it was revealed that the class has started a hate campaign against the Maths teacher. Other 15 students joined him when he posted his answersheet online on Facebook by giving derogatory remarks against the teacher. The students, though initially suspended for a week were later suspended for three months. Later, the school reduced the suspension till November 15 but with riders.
