F&CC gives nod to hike rent for booking community centres

The division of departments between the Municipal Corporation and the UT Administration was an issue of debate in the meeting. The councillors demanded that the Malaria Wing should be transferred to the civic body.

The issue came up for discussion after an agenda was proposed in the meeting that entailed purchasing two vehicles for fogging and handing these over to the Malaria Wing of the UT Health Department. The proposal was mooted as it was felt that despite increasing cases of dengue and malaria the health department was not taking sufficient steps to deal with the problem. The councillors had complained that while residents approach them to get fogging done in the residential areas,the health department did not take sufficient steps.

The purchase of the vehicles was rejected as it was opined that since the department was not under purview of the MC,the vehicles could not be purchased. The councillors stated that the proposal for transferring of the Malaria Wing to the MC be taken up with the Administration.

The members of the F&CC further decided that a decision approved in the sanitation committee for starting a pilot project for garbage collection in group housing societies be brought to the meeting of the general house for discussion. It was felt that it was a policy matter and required to be discussed by all members. The functions within the housing societies at present are managed by the societies themselves.

The committee approved construction of a toe wall and baffle wall around various parks in Sector 27 for which Rs 29.64 lakh was approved. A pedestrian pathway would be constructed along the road in Timber Market,Sector 26. While an amount of Rs 33.44 lakh was approved,construction would be done after approval from the public health department of the civic body. A park would be developed near one kanal houses at Sector 11 for which an amount of Rs 25.45 lakh was approved.
