Expert group discusses Mohali’s development plan

With a view to give a new impetus through micro-planning and development process in Punjab,the Planning and Development Cell of Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration Punjab organised an expert core group meeting to solicit advice on the draft of the plan for Mohali Assembly constituency.

With a view to give a new impetus through micro-planning and development process in Punjab,the Planning and Development Cell of Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration Punjab (MGSIPAP) organised an expert core group meeting to solicit advice on the draft of the plan for Mohali Assembly constituency.

This was the first-ever plan for any Assembly or Parliamentary constituency in the country. Earlier,the usual practice was to go by district planning or block planning.

MGSIPAP Director General B K Srivastava,while highlighting the objectives of this plan,said this innovative strategy focuses on micro-planning of the developmental process and aims to incorporate the knowledge of the elected members and experts familiar with the ground realities of the territory. The special feature of this plan envisages balanced development of both urban and rural areas and reflects the spirit of decentralisation process.

Prof Gopal Krishan,Principal Adviser,Planning and Development Cell,made the presentation on the Mohali Plan.

The plan proposal for Mohali Assembly Constituency recommended extension of the lal dora (outer boundary) of villages by at least 200 metres,training centres for construction works,provision of mobile veterinary vans,promotion of a culture of matching contribution by beneficiary groups,setting up of drug de-addiction centres and making it incumbent on the part of private land developers to invest in infrastructure of the whole village where they acquire land.
