Two days after the media highlighted that the BJP cadres were collecting funds to be handed over to partys national president Nitin Gadkari for a party rally in Punjab on December 24,the saffron outfit has decided to stop the drive.
The party has decided to stop such collection of election fund and the same has been conveyed to the leaders and workers and they have been asked about to concentrate on the rally only, BJP national general secretary J P Nadda said on Monday.
The move comes as the BJP was confronted with an embarrassing situation after the state party chief Ashwini Sharma in a meeting held in Jalandhar on November 27,instructed the cadre to collect funds for the proposed rally.
Nadda evaded queries about the funds that have already been collected. He was here in connection with the preparations for the party rally and the BJP national office bearers meeting on December 23 in Jalandhar in which all senior leaders, including former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and Gadkari would be present.
It may be noted that despite Sharmas call, the BJP cadre were finding it difficult to collect the funds for the rally. Sources in the party said that till just a couple of days ago, just about five per cent of total proposed money was collected.
