Designers list out tips on how to stay in vogue in 2010
Dresses and jumpsuits, chunky jewellery and sequins fashion in 2010 will be a celebration of understated elegance. Leading fashion designers look into the crystal ball and provide some tips:
Ranna Gill: Jumpers will step off the runways onto the sidewalks. Theres absolutely no getting away from dresses. The length of the dress will hover around the knee, neither too high, nor too low,but the silhouettes can vary according to the designers inspiration. Big shoulders will be in,so will be solid blocks of colour. In accessories, chunky, gorgeous necklaces will be absolutely essential.
Pallavi Mohan: The basic list will include lots of dresses and tunics. The fabrics will be mostly cotton, while the silhouettes steer away from laboured fits. Think of volume,of basic silhouettes, large sleeves and colours like coral, ivory and denim blue.
Rahul Khanna: Pants and jumpsuits will be everywhere. In a carryover from last year, draping will be big,so will sequins. Grey and black will take a backseat, stock up on fuschia, coral, green and yellow. If theres one thing you must have in your wardrobe its a dress. 2010 will be all about dresses.
Hemant Lalwani and Nandita Raipurani: Must-haves include dress coats for winter, and leggings and stockings. Summers will see a lot of colourful caftan dresses, with easy-to-wear,flowing silhouettes. Embellishments will include thread and appliqué work for daywear while crystals and sequins are for the evening.
Raakesh Agarvwal: 2009 was the year of hope after the recession,so fashion was mostly over the top. There were lots of sequins and glitter. 2010 will be the same, but in a more muted tone. Simplified elegance will work. Shimmer will be in,but in a subtle manner. Think of old-world Hollywood glamour in a modern day context and youll get your look correct.
