Double whammy for Kaushik

After their marathon final matches in the men’s and women’s singles categories,the satisfied look on the faces of Kaushik D Sarkar and Manisha Mazumdar were palpable. The shuttlers,both are from Principal Controller of Accounts (Factories) Kolkata,triumphed braving hot and humid conditions,and stern challenges from their opponents in the 7th All India Defence Accounts Department table tennis tournament,at the Sector 23 Table Tennis Hall on Wednesday.

While Kaushik overcame a spirited Amlan Patra of PC of (Fys) Kolkata 11-7,8-11,11-2,11-8,9-11,8-11,11-9,Manisha also had to toil hard to beat Tapsi Sarkar of Principal Controller of Accounts(factories) Kolkata 9-11,11-5,11-6,8-11,9-11,11-2,12-10,in the women’s singles final.

Meanwhile,Kaushik went on to win his second title of the day when he partnered with Chatterjee of Principal Controller of Accounts (Factories) Kolkata and defeated Shantanu Saha and Amlan Patra 11-9,12-10,11-9 in the doubles final. Similarly,Tapsi Sarkar and Swapna Mitra of Principal Controller of Accounts(factories) Kolkata won the women’s doubles crown by beating Bharti M. Vegadekar and Upasani R S of PCDA (O) Pune 11-3,11-8,11-4.
