The day belonged to Poonam of Pharmacy Department (1st year) as she rallied to win singles and doubles badminton titles during the first day of the Annual Sports Meet of Government Polytechnic College for Women,Chandigarh,on Wednesday.
In the singles title,she defeated Sonalika of ECE 3 rd year and later returned to partner with Archana to get the better of the duo of Ruby and Neetika of IDD 2 nd year to take the title. MOP Department won the throw ball title,while the ECE Department emerged as runners-up. Nisha of ECE 6th semester took the honours in carrom singles,while the doubles title was annexed by Puneet and Veenam of LIS 6th semester as they got the better of Vandana and Poonam of Pharmacy 2nd year. The cricket title was claimed by Architecture Department who defeated Pharmacy Department. Similarly,ECE Department took the Kho-kho title,while MOP Department finished as runners-up. ECE Department took their second title of the day by winning the basketball title. They defeated MOP Department.
Jasjit appointed
Jasjit Singh,son of His Excellency Sardar Surjit Singh Barnala,Governor of Tamil Nadu,has been nominated as a member of the Games Village Sub-Committee (GVSC) of XIX Commonwealth Games by Suresh Kalmadi,chairman,Organising Committee of the Games. The Games will be held from October 3 to 14 in New Delhi.
Cricket trials today
Trials will be held on March 11 at 3 pm at Sector 16 Cricket stadium for the selection of India Under-19 team that will participate in the 2 nd Indo-Nepal Friendship Series to be held from March 21 to 31 at Kathmandu ,Nepal.
