From rumble strips to installing fountains at all places possible, the UT Administration continues to introduce a variety of experiments in the city. Srishti Choudhary spoke

to a few citizens, who emphasised the importance of new projects, but said that it would lead to development only if they were maintained.

It is sheer waste of funds. There are so many fountains placed at various places in the city and some of them are not even functional. Moreover, water is a precious resource. The Administration should spend public money judiciously and in the right areas. These experiments are unnecessary and call for closer examination.

It is good that the Administration is trying to beautify the city through fountains and paver blocks. The fountains placed near roundabouts have their own benefits. They add to the beauty of the city.

Experiments are needed,as it is only through R&D that developments can take place. But,funds should be used wisely and unnecessary wastage should be avoided. These projects should not be a means to fill the pockets of those in power. It is the common man who should benefit from them.

Development is a continuous process,so such experiments are needed, but they are justified only if they are followed by proper maintenance. It will be a waste of money,if they are not maintained or taken care of after they are introduced.

The administration introduces projects and then leaves them unattended after sometime. The rumble-strips around one of the roundabouts at Sector 19,were a complete failure. At least they should take suggestions from people, before introducing them. People’s participation is essential, which the administration usually ignores and we bear the brunt of such steps.

The UT Administration carries the onus of maintaining the status of ‘City Beautiful’ of Chandigarh. So,I think it is completely justified if it is bringing new experiments to develop the city. We must understand that these projects are needed to bring the city at par with other developed cities.
