Does not behove state authority: MEA on Mann’s dig at PM’s foreign visits
Without naming the Punjab CM, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Government of India “disassociates” itself from the “unwarranted” comments made by a “high state authority” that undermined India's ties with friendly countries.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Thursday disapproved of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits, terming his comments “irresponsible and and regrettable”.
Without naming the Punjab CM, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Government of India “disassociates” itself from the “unwarranted” comments made by a “high state authority” that undermined India’s ties with friendly countries.
“We have seen some comments made by a high state authority about India’s relations with friendly countries from the Global South. These remarks are irresponsible and regrettable and do not behove a state authority. The Government of India disassociates itself from such unwarranted comments that undermine India’s ties with friendly countries,” said Jaiswal, replying to media queries.
Mann, earlier in the day, had criticised the Prime Minister’s just-concluded five-nation tour of Brazil, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina and Namibia.
Addressing a press conference, Mann said PM finds time to tour foreign countries but “fails” to address the concerns of 140 crore Indians. He criticized Modi for celebrating foreign honours from countries with populations as small as 10,000 while “neglecting” the nation’s pressing issues.
“Has he come back from Ghana? He will be welcomed upon his return. Do not know which countries he has been visiting. (But) he is not staying in the country where 140 crore people live. He goes to countries that have a population of 10,000 and gets highest awards there…In Punjab, 10,000 people gather to have a look at a JCB machine…”.
