The Vadodara city Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Monday arrested bootlegger Alpesh Sindhi alias Alpu on Monday.

He was wanted under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime Act (GUJCTOC) since May this year and  was arrested from Haryana, said the police. He was brought to Vadodara on Monday, where he was formally arrested, said the police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), A Division, DJ Chavda said that Sindhi — accused in 52 cases— was tracked down using human and technical sources.

Chavda said, “The accused was tracked down to Haryana using human sources and a thorough technical surveillance on Sunday night. The accused was brought to Vadodara and arrested… He is wanted in multiple prohibition cases, especially a case by the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) in Anand’s Vasad. He is also an accused in an attempt to murder case.”

Chavda added that the 52 cases lodged against him at various police stations in Vadodara city covered multiple charges including prohibition, extortion, attempt to murder and voluntarily causing hurt.

The ACP said, “The accused is a part of a gang that illegally brings liquor from Haryana and then indulges in bootlegging in Vadodara and Anand districts and around… The accused was part of the bootleggers’ gang booked in May 2025 and is the sixth arrest in connection with the case.”

The GUJCTOC case against eight persons, including Sindhi was lodged at Warasiya police station in May this year, following a crackdown by the SMC, said the police. Sindhi had been on the run after being allegedly involved in an attempted murder case involving bootlegger Harry Sindhi in a street side gang war earlier this year, said the police.
