A group of students, staged a protest on Thursday, against the warden and the hostel committee of DAV College,Sector 10. The protest was organised against admissions made to the hostel.
Aggrieved students alleged that the college authorities allotted hostel seats to students ignoring the merit list, which was the criteria.
The college has received 800 forms for hostel admissions against 184 seats. As per the administrative procedure, the hostel admissions are done after preparing the merit list followed by personal interviews.
Despite the fact that I had 84 per cent in class XII examination,I have been denied admission to the hostel. However some of the students possessing marks below this have been allotted the hostel. Neither has my name been included in the merit list nor have I been considered for the personal interview, alleged Varshant,an applicant from Haryana.
A similar claim has been made by another student,Major Singh, who had scored 79 per cent marks in senior secondary. The college authorities claim that they are allotting the hostel seats as per the rules and regulations.
Also, refusing the allegations, the chief warden of the college,Dr Ghanshyam said,We have not denied admission to any student without a valid reason.
He added,Outsiders are inciting the students to stage protest just to disturb the college environment. Marks are not the criteria for hostel admissions. The conduct of the students are also taken into consideration and if colleges authorities find anything then they have the power to deny admission to a student on personal grounds.
Every hostel applicant, appearing on the merit list, shall be made to undertake the personal interview, after which the committee shall decide whether the candidate shall be allotted a hostel seat, the chief warden further added.
