DASA students go home without writing exam

The issue of fraudulent admission of students under DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) scheme at PEC University of Technology,Chandigarh, has taken another turn with the discovery that some of the students missed their mid-term I examinations and returned home. PEC suspects these students were involved in the forging of documents and went home after the scam was unearthed to escape legal action. The university might take action against them on Monday on the basis of records.

When the session exams ended on Saturday,PEC found that some students belonging to different classes did not appear for them. When the university inquired about them,it was found that some of them were admitted under the DASA scheme. “On Saturday, there was Network and Systems examination of BE II,for which one of the students did not appear. The student neither informed the institute authorities nor the Class Representative about the same. On investigation,it was revealed that he was admitted under the DASA scheme and has already gone home. There could be many more students under DASA scheme who missed the exam and went home to escape any action,” said a senior PEC official.

Now the institute is in the process of verifying the records of all those who did not appear for their exams and reasons for the same. Also,of the 175 students admitted under the DASA scheme, eight have not yet submitted their original documents to the institute. Despite the deadline being extended twice by the institute, these students failed to submit the documents.

While the authorities claimed that these could be genuine cases, the institute would give them sufficient time for depositing their documents. “The deadline was extended from September 15 to 17,and now till Monday, for these eight students who failed to submit their original passport and identity cards. After Monday, the institute would take action against them. The CBI is also expected to visit the institute again to verify the documents of the remaining students,” said Dean Academic Affairs Professor Sanjeev Sofat.
