All the way from New York,Lynne Pidel is set to take you to the dance floor and open a brand-new world, one thats filled with music, fantasy, dreams and ideas. In a unique programme, initiated by the faculty of PAUSE,the brainchild of Shalini,Lynne is here for a one-year assignment to take classes of ballet and creative movement, designed to build strength and develop grace through the use of stories, music and games. Its part of our endeavour to supplement school education and help children make friends with feelings and work on topics not covered in school within the field of creativity, feelings, and social skills, smile Shalini and Sanjeev, who are looking forward to explore a brand-new medium of dance with Lynne, who also has a degree in fine arts. Ballet has a side to it which is very harsh and I experienced it,as my teachers failed to reach out to me in many ways. And to solve my problem,I began teaching ballet with a desire to prove there must be a better way to teach, Lynne started her own program in her hometown in New Jersey. Lynne, who studied at the Royal Academy of Dance, says her core makes her hungry to learn more about children, open their minds, for she knows that not everyone can be a ballerina. I bring in stories,music,problem-solving techniques, involving the body and mind to help them explore new horizons, Lynne says that to be a good teacher, she continues to learn alongside her students. Her repertory as a teacher is broad starting with ballet, creative movement and expanding to theatre, art, yoga, and early childhood classes of science. Ive already taught in three countries, and I dont believe in imposing my ideas, but going with the flow, exploring a new culture and people to expand my methodology, Lynne is going to work with children in the age group of three to ten and also involve parents in the classes. Imagination and a love for dance, are the only prerequisite for the sessions which are on the weekends and for ten weeks. The first three classes are tough,we start on the floor with a warm-up,the children sing their name, interpret the movements, though the terminology of ballet remains unchanged, Lynne talks about an interesting module,Mommy & Me,where moms and their babies (six months plus),can sing, dance and create together. This is followed by a parent-to-parent sharing session and is a place of learning in an open and free environment, promises Lynne. Classes begin in a few days and for more, write at pause.chandigarh@gmail.com
