DA inquiry: Cong leader Vaid quizzed for third time; dissatisfied vigilance summons him again

For third time, Punjab vigilance bureau questioned Congress leader Kuldeep Singh Vaid for over four hours in disproportionate assets (DA) inquiry, in Ludhiana office, Thursday. However, the vigilance bureau has now summoned him again on April 19.
Ludhiana vigilance SSP Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu said that Vaid was given proformas to fill details of all his movable and immovable assets and the timeline of their purchase. However, he has failed to furnish entire details till now. “We have now summoned him again on April 19. We are dissatisfied with the details of his assets he has furnished. He has asked for more time to reveal more details,” said the SSP.
Earlier, the vigilance had questioned him on March 20 and 29.
For two consecutive days on March 13 and 14, the technical team of vigilance bureau had evaluated Vaid’s properties in Ludhiana. The Ludhiana police also registered an FIR against him under the Excise Act after at liquor bottles in excessive quantities were recovered from his residence in Sarabha Nagar.
Vaid had resigned as an IAS officer to contest the 2017 Assembly elections on a Congress ticket. He was a Punjab Civil Service officer before being promoted as an IAS officer. He won the election from Gill, a constituency reserved for the Scheduled Castes. However, he lost to the AAP’s Jiwan Singh Sanghowal in the 2022 polls.

Vaid had served in various posts in the Ludhiana administration and municipal corporation, including as the additional chief administrator of the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA). He was also the deputy commissioner of Moga.
Vaid’s wife, Kamaljit Kaur, retired as a government school principal. His son Harkaran Singh Vaid is a local Congress councilor in Ludhiana.
