Couple robbed at knifepoint,snatcher arrested

The police arrested a snatcher late on Friday night,soon after he robbed a woman of her purse and gold ring at knifepoint on the road dividing Sector 29 and 30.

The police arrested a snatcher late on Friday night,soon after he robbed a woman of her purse and gold ring at knifepoint on the road dividing Sector 29 and 30.

The complainants,Lakha Sharma and her husband,sustained injuries when accused Harpreet Singh suddenly stopped in front of their two-wheeler making it lose its balance.

The couple fell and before they could assess the situation,Harpreet allegedly snatched Sharma’s purse and asked her to hand over the gold ring.

“He took off my gold ring and fled on his scooter (CH03Q 9447). We were too scared to react and therefore could not resist the attack,” Sharma told the police.

Fortunately,a police party was patrolling near the spot where the incident took place. “The couple approached the police party and narrated the incident. The team chased the accused and arrested him near Khera temple in Sector 29. The knife,gold ring and purse were recovered from his possession,” police said.

Inspector Yashpal Sharma,Station House Officer of Industrial Area police station,said the accused had been recently released on bail.

“He has been involved in a number of snatchings in the city. Three cases of snatchings were solved when Singh was arrested on May 3. He was released on bail in the last week of May and went back to his old ways,” the SHO added.

The accused has been booked for theft with an intent to cause harm. Further investigations in the case are on.
