The clash took place outside the old UIET building where help-desks for admission had been set up by students’ organisations. The incident occurred after some SOI members entered into a scuffle with Khushdeep Singh, senior vice-president of PUSU, who was having lunch. PU Chief Security Officer Jatinder Grover and other security personnel reached the spot and tried to control the situation.

Things turned ugly after a student threw a chair towards the SOI help-desk, which then led to stone pelting and later hurling of chairs and abuses.
Grover and the two other security officials were injured in the incident. One of them, Trilochan Singh, suffered a head injury.
