Conventional courses no more,students tread new path

Akshay Shreedhar,a student of DAV Senior Secondary Model School,Sector 15 who scored 91 per cent in Class XII non-medical,was pushed into the stream like many of his peers. He however,was attracted to law and did not want to join the rat race to get into IIT’s. Abhilaksh Gaind,was never the one to take things lying down. He has always taken interest in politics and was challenged by his father to qualify CLAT,which he did with an All India Rank of 181. Both these students have set their eyes on becoming lawyers.

While some opt for academics to build their career in the scholastic discipline,others might love to experiment with vocational courses. Students can also learn a foreign language and aim for an interpreter’s job in the consulates and embassies. Besides these,there are courses in advertising,journalism,media studies,business management,performing arts,travel and tourism and more.

“After two years of tuition and heavy load of studies,a bachelor in arts with psychology is an exciting option. There are a large number of avenues after pursuing arts,science is no longer the only option,” says Tammana Mukherjee who is looking forward to college life at Delhi. With options at galore,students are looking at newer avenues which would be relaxing,yet would help them to be at par with their peers in competition.

As youngster’s look at their choices,parents who were skeptical are now more open to their kids decisions. “Parents should not push their kids into sciences,students should be given the liberty to choose a stream of their interest. There are many cases,where the students have changed their stream after Class XII and are doing very well,” says Rakesh Sachdeva principal DAV School Sector 15.
