Contaminated drinking water supply irks residents of Sunny Enclave, Sector 125 and Mohali village

The March 7 test reports revealed alarming results. According to the chemical testing report, turbidity was recorded at 15.90, whereas the acceptable range is between 1 and 5. Odour was classified as disagreeable. Colour was recorded at 20, exceeding the acceptable range of 5 to 15.

Even before summer has fully set in, residents of Sunny Enclave, Sector 125, and Mohali village are facing a crisis due to the supply of contaminated drinking water. The poor water quality has led to complaints of stomach ailments and other health issues among locals.

Jaswinder Singh, a resident of house no. 4439, said that the water is not fit for drinking, bathing, or even washing hands. He claimed that more than 100 houses in his locality are affected by this problem.

Sachin Ahuja, a resident of house no. 4626, Sector 125, Sunny Enclave, said that despite multiple complaints to the health department, no action has been taken yet. Finally, residents sent water samples for testing at the Regional Water Testing Lab, Phase 2, Mohali.

The bacteriological testing report raised even greater concerns: Total coliform count was 348 and E.coli count was 141, while it should be 0.

These figures confirm that the drinking water supply is in a highly unsafe condition, sparking outrage among residents, who are demanding immediate action from the authorities to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.

When contacted, health department officials assured that they are investigating the issue. They suspected a leakage or contamination in the water pipeline and promised to resolve the matter as soon as possible.

Due to the mixing of dirty water with the drinking water supply near Shaheed Bhai Taru Singh School on Street Number Two at Mohali village, several residents have suffered from stomach aches and diarrhea. After complaints were filed with the health department, the Senior Medical Officer (SMO) sent teams to collect additional water samples for testing.
