The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Gurbir Singh on Friday adjourned the hearing on former Haryana DGP S P S Rathore’s appeal challenging the six month sentence and the CBI prosecution demanding a sentence enhancement to maximum two years in the Ruchika molestation case, till May 3.

The proceedings in the two appeals before the court are likely to be taken up for consecutive hearings from May 3 till both the sides have presented their arguments, before the final judgement.

Today’s hearing was held in-camera following the plea filed by Abha Rathore, counsel and wife of the accused, who had requested the judge to not allow the media inside the court on Thursday. Today, the defence counsels presented their arguments for the second consecutive day while pointing out contradictions in the statements of the witnesses. The arguments lasted for about four hours. While Rathore in his appeal has challenged the sentence, the CBI prosecution has asked for enhancement of sentence from six months to maximum two years in their cross appeal. CBI counsel C S Sharma said they would press for the enhancement of the sentence when they present their arguments.
