Cong steals show at Jallianwala Bagh

It was a poor show of the state government on the 91st anniversary of Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar.

It was a poor show of the state government on the 91st anniversary of Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar. While the top leadership of the Congress was in full attendance,only two ministers — Laxmi Kanta Chawla and Hira Singh Gabrhia — represented the state.

Defence Minister A K Antony,Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni,Union Minister of State for External Affairs Parneet Kaur,Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda,former Union minister Ashwani Kumar,Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Rajinder Kaur Bhattal,state Congress chief Mohinder Singh Kaypee,MLA O P Soni and other senior Congress leaders were present.

The Defence Minister said,“Jallianwala Bagh was not just a monument,but a pilgrim site that sent a strong message of nationalism to today’s youth.”

Ambika Soni earlier said the UPA government had announced Rs 100 crore to the state government for preservation of monuments and building. She also assured that the demand of telecast of a programme regarding the life and contributions of the martyrs on national TV and Radio would be met.

Former MLA Darbari Lal,Harjinder Thekedar,former district Congress chief Yoginderpal Dhingra were also present. The 50- minute light and sound show depicting the history of the Jallianwala Bagh with the voice of Amitabh Bachchan in the background was also unveiled in the evening.
