Cong leader stabbed by neighbour

The district president of the Mohali Congress (Scheduled Caste Cell) Pooja was assaulted and left seriously injured when she tried to intervene in the verbal duel between her neighbours at Gharuan village near Kharar.

The district president of the Mohali Congress (Scheduled Caste Cell) Pooja was assaulted and left seriously injured when she tried to intervene in the verbal duel between her neighbours at Gharuan village near Kharar. In her early 30s,Pooja was stabbed in her waist and arms by assailant Mohan Singh of Gharuan,who fled from the spot,Investigation Officer (IO) Assistant Sub-Inspector Nirmal Singh told Newsline.

Admitted at Civil Hospital with grievous stab injuries,the Congress leader told the police that around 9.30 pm when she heard loud noises of quarrel coming from her neighbourhood,she saw her neighbour Mohan Singh having heated exchanges with his brother-in-law Dilbagh Singh.

“As I tried to pacify the quarreling relatives,Mohan abused me. When I told him to mind his tongue,he threatened to shoot me with his rifle but instead stabbed me repeatedly with a dagger,” recalled the injured woman politician,while adding that till other neighbours came to her rescue,the assailant absconded in the cover of darkness. On the statement of Pooja,the local police have booked Mohan Singh for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon and criminal intimidation.
