A day after Assistant Estate Officer Hargunjit Kaur said eviction proceedings had begun against Strawberry Fields School,Sector 24,Deputy Commissioner Brijendra Singh said there appeared some “confusion” over the plot of land resumed 16 years ago by the Estate Office.
Referring to a report (‘UT initiates eviction proceedings against Strawberry Fields School’) published in Newsline on Saturday,Singh said he has called a meeting on Monday to examine the veracity of the information provided under RTI Act by the Estate Office.
The report was based on the information obtained under RTI and had quoted extensively from the official document.
The meeting,Singh said, has been called in view of a complaint that the plot resumed by the Estate Office was different from the one on which the Strawberry School is located.
Atul Khanna, director of Durga Das Foundation, which runs the school, said the RTI reply mixed up the facts pertaining to another piece of land in the same sector.
“The 2.262-acre plot in question is not the one on which our play school is located,” he said. “Our plot, which is one acre in size and a freehold property, was allotted in 1967,vide allotment no. 21647,dated 29-12-1967,and has never been resumed,as it was reported.”
We are pained to notice quote of the Assistant Estate Officer in the news item, saying that eviction proceedings have been initiated against our school, whereas the fact of the matter is that no such notice has ever been issued by the EO to us, Khanna said.
