Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced permanent employment for all contract teachers who have been working in the state for the past ten years. During a video address on Tuesday evening, the CM shared that the
state government plans to notify a special cadre specifically for these teachers shortly after the annual vacations.

Detailing the revised pay scales for these teachers, Mann said education volunteers, previously earning Rs 3,500 per month, will now receive Rs 15,000. Similarly, EIGS teachers, who were previously earning Rs 6,000, will now get a monthly salary of Rs 18,000. The salaries of education providers, divided into three categories based on their qualifications, will be increased from Rs 9,500, 10,000, and 11,000 to Rs 20,500, 22,000, and 23,500, respectively.

As for the 1,036 IEVs (Inclusive Education Volunteers), their pay will rise from Rs 5,500 to Rs 15,000, a big jump of nearly Rs 10,000. Additionally, all holidays will now be paid, and women teachers will be entitled to maternity leave.

Mann further said that these teachers will continue to serve up to the age of 58 and will receive a 5 percent annual increment.

The CM acknowledged the route of protests these teachers had taken to achieve justice and regretted that this step had not been taken earlier. “Our intentions are clear. Whenever we secure funds, we will fulfill the
promises we have made to various departments,” said the CM.

Mann hoped that once the new academic session commences, these teachers will provide superior education to their students.

The move is expected to benefit at least 12,700 contractual teachers who were regularized recently. Mann said that these teachers will be known as Associate Teachers, Special Inclusive Teachers and others adding that they will be governed by ‘Policy for Welfare of Adhoc, Contractual, Temporary Teachers (Nation Builders) and other employees in the School Education Department’.
