Led by Una’s Mehak, girls rule merit list; 61 in top-10 strap: Girls top all three streams, bag top four positions

The Familiar story of girls outshining the boys played out yet again in the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) Class 12 examination results that were declared Saturday. The girls bagged the top four positions with Mehak, a student of St D R Public Senior Secondary School, Gagret, in the Una district emerging as the overall state topper across all streams — arts, science, and commerce. Individually also, girls topped the three streams. Out of the 75 students in the Top-10 merit list, 61 are girls and 14 boys.
Announcing the results, HPBOSE chairman Hemraj Bairwa said a total of 86,373 students appeared for the examinations this year, of which 1,591 students cleared it and 5,847 were placed in the compartment category. Another 8,581 students could not clear the exams. The overall pass percentage is 83.16 percent, a 10 per cent rise over 73.76 per cent in 2024.

Mehak wants to become a teacher and follow in the footsteps of her mother, also a teacher at a government school. Mehak lost her father some time ago.
Khushi, a student of Dhauladhar Public Senior Secondary School, Sham Nagar (Dharamshala), Jahnavi Thakur of Bharti Vidyapeeth Public Senior Secondary School, Baijnath, stood second with 96.6 per cent marks each.
In the Arts stream, Ankita of Government Senior Secondary School, Rait, in Kangra, emerged topper with 96.6 per cent, scoring 483 marks out of 500 marks. She credited her success to her parents and teachers and said she wants to serve the country as an administrative officer.
Nirdosh Kumari of the New Era School of Sciences, Chhatri in Kangra, and Jyoti Sharma of Government Senior Secondary School, Jalari in Hamirpur, stood second and third in the arts stream with 96 percent and 95.8 per cent marks, respectively.
In the commerce stream, Payal Sharma of Government Senior Secondary School, Chanour in Kangra emerged topper with 96.4 per cent (482 marks). Shagun (95.6 per cent) and Ananya Thakur (95.4 per cent), both students of the Government Senior Secondary School, Chauki Maniar in Una, bagged the second and third positions, respectively.
Krish Loharia of The New Era School of Sciences at Chhatri in Kangra leads the boys in the Top-10 merit list, securing 96.4 per cent marks (482).
Kanika from Bharti Vidyapeeth Public Senior Secondary School, Baijnath; Palak Thakur from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Ambota; Navneet Kaur from Sunrise Public Senior Secondary School, Saloh; Kanak Sharma from St. TDR Public Senior Secondary School, Gagret; Krish Lahoria from New Era School of Sciences, Chhatri; Payal Sharma from Government Senior Secondary School, Chanoor; and Riya Rangra from Bharti Vidyapeeth Public Senior Secondary School, Baijnath, jointly secured the third position with 96.4% marks.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri congratulated the students who have successfully cleared the class 12 examination.
Appreciating the meritorious students for their achievement, the CM said that it was a testament to their hard work and devotion towards their studies and it reflects the importance of commitment and zeal towards academic pursuits and success in life. He also lauded the efforts of parents and teachers. Sukhu encouraged the students to pursue their dreams with passion and determination.
In a statement, Agnihotri said it was a matter of pride not only for their families but also for the entire state and expressed gratitude to the teachers and parents whose guidance and support helped the students move towards their goals. The examinations were conducted from March 4 to March 29 at 2,300 centres across the state.
