Even as board examinations for Classes X and XII are still ongoing, private schools in the city have already initiated the admission procedure for Class XI.

On the basis of pre-board examination results and yearly performance of the students, the private unaided schools
have initiated provisional admissions for students.

The schools are also conducting admission tests for the students to allot seats. Chairperson of Vivek High School HS Mamik said: “The final result of the board examinations is awaited. But we are providing provisional admissions on the basis of the performances of the students in the last two assessments.”

At Vivek High School, majority of the seats have already been allotted with the last day of admission being March 28.

Similarly, at DAV School, Sector 15, students can apply for Class XI admission till March 15 after which provisional admissions will be conducted on the basis of the results of pre-board examinations. “Once the result is declared by the CBSE, provisional seats will be confirmed and the remaining seats will be filled,” an official from DAV School said.

The admission test for Class XI at KBDAV School, Sector 7, was conducted on Monday, and according to the officials, students who will perform well in the test and have secured Grade A in the pre-board examinations will be given direct admissions to Class XI.

At St Anne’s Convent School, Sector 32, the admission test is scheduled to be held next week and applications will be accepted till March 7. “Provisional admissions are being done on the basis of performance of students and after that, a test will be conducted for the remaining few seats,” said Lizy from St Anne’s School.

The admission test at Carmel Convent School, Sector 9, was conducted on March 28, and classes for XI will be started from April 11. “Even though provisional admissions help in filling up the majority of seats, the final list will only be declared after the CBSE results, as sometimes, some students choose to change the school after the results,” a school official said.

Explaining how provisional admissions help in saving time, Mamik told The Chandigarh Newsline: “Results of the board examinations will be out by May. If the admission process is initiated only after that, a lot of time is wasted academically. By conducting tests for provisional admissions in April, a lot of time can be saved as classes will be started by the end of the month.”

Centralised admissions to senior secondary classes in government schools will, however, be conducted after the results for Class X board examinations are declared in May.

According to officials of the education department, the Common Admission Schedule for Class XI admissions is likely to be released by June.
