The city-aided colleges witnessed a disruption for two hours when the teachers went on strike on Monday morning. Agitated by the unfulfilled promises made by the Punjab government that has failed to implement the already notified pension scheme for college teachers, the teachers of all the aided colleges of Chandigarh observed a two-hour strike, from 11 am to 1 pm.
It was a call given by the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU),to join others teachers of Punjab in their strike. This was followed by the two-hour strike they had observed two days ago on October 29.
Prof Ghanshyam Dev,president of Chandigarh District Council of PCCTU said,The Pension and Gratuity Act passed by Akali-BJP government in 1999 still remains unimplemented. Punjab is the only state not to grant any pension to the employees of aided colleges.
Announcing a state rally,he added,If the government fails to take positive action, the PCCTU will hold a state-level rally on November 8 at Batala and intensify the agitation further.
